Paternoster: This Elevator Never Stops

The paternoster is kind of elevator that consist of a chain of open compartments that move up and down continuously through the vertical shaft of a building in a loop and without stopping. Passengers step into the moving compartments in the direction they wish to go and then hop off when the elevator reaches the desired floor. There is no stopping in between the floors, and passengers must remain alert and get their timing right or else get severed. For people who avoid escalators for fear of getting their toes crushed, paternoster are a death trap. A small misstep and you could lose your arm or even your life.

The first paternoster was installed in 1884 in Dartford, England. Seven years prior, its patent was obtained by a British engineer named Peter Hart. The name paternoster comes from the Latin words “Our Father”, which are the first two words of ‘The Lord’s Prayer’. It doesn’t mean you should say a small prayer each time you get into one, the reference comes from the device’s resemblance to rosary beads that are used when reciting prayers.

This Guy Transforms Himself Into Disney Princesses And His Makeup Skills Are Too Good

There are Disney fans, there are Disney addicts, and then there is Richard Schaefer, a 21-year-old freelance makeup artist who turns himself into princesses from his favorite Disney movies. And as you can see from these pictures, the guy has got some serious skills!

The House of Mouse enthusiast from Orange County California started cosplaying as Disney princes and princesses four years ago. Each transformation takes roughly two hours and he even makes his own costumes, a skill he taught himself in school to take his mind off being bullied. He used to get told that he looked androgynous and so he decided to turn these comments into something positive by turning himself into his favorite Disney princesses. He says that dressing up has helped him to feel more confident as a person, and if we had over 80k followers on Instagram, we’d feel pretty confident too! Good work Richard! Or should we say Ariel?

This Taiwanese Teacher Has Some Mad Chalk Drawing Skills

When you think of sitting in class, you obviously assume it’ll require reading a textbook, right? Well, not with Taiwanese teacher Chuan-Bin Chung (鍾全斌). He manages to create amazing educational masterpieces on his chalkboard, while most teachers can’t even draw a straight line.

Chuan-Bin Chung has been teaching Illustration, Anatomy of Arts and Painting Skill for 3 years now at the Department of Visual Communication Design of Shu-Te University (樹德科大) in Taiwan. In an interview with us he said: “Yes, we have a textbook. But we don’t read it, we draw it. Students, majoring in this area, cannot learn by just reading the pictures on books. Instead, we learn while drawing something. In my classes, students have to draw what I am demonstrating on the chalkboard.”

If you liked these chalkboard drawings, take a look at another teacher drawing on a chalkboard as well.

This Guy Did A Romantic Photoshoot With His Thesis Which Ended In Bittersweet Goodbye

As any Master’s student will know, a thesis isn’t just a paper. A thesis is the physical manifestation of several months of your life, and during that time both you and your thesis can end up developing a close-knit bond. It’s natural. But there’s a limit. And as you can see from these pictures, this guy went beyond that limit.

Deciding that he couldn’t bear to part with his thesis without some kind of fond farewell, 26-year-old Morris Vanegas, a student at MIT studying a duel masters in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, chose to say goodbye with a romantic photoshoot. Obviously. “To my lovely thesis, whom I had to turn into MIT today,” wrote Vanegas. “You made me a better person, pushing me through all obstacles when I felt weak. Your sense of humor is just like mine. It’s like we were always on the same page. I hope to see your face again soon, in the references section of future works on space suits.” Anybody got a tissue?
