Nerikomi Pottery Art

Nerikomi Pottery Art

Have you ever wondered if there is more to pottery than working the clay, shaping the pot, baking it and glazing it? Of course, there is, there is pottery and then there is nerikomi pottery. What is Nerikomi pottery? This is a Japanese way of making pottery that has intricate motifs in it but not the kind that you draw on the surface but the kind that you inculcate into the very layers of the clay. It is also called Neriage and is a decorative process that piles on colored blocks of clay to form a pattern. Once the block is created, very thin slices are cut and placed on the pottery piece on which you want the design to appear and it is pressed down to make an integral part of the design. By including the process of Nerikomi you can take the earthy and worthy art of pottery to another level altogether.

Drawing the squirrel before you go on to bigger works of art

When it comes to drawing the sweet and playful creatures that are part of our world, we often struggle a bit because while they seem simple enough, we are lost on how to start drawing. You can also take a look at charcoal drawing techniques for beginners in terms of drawing the squirrel before you go on to bigger works of art.

The 387 Houses of Peter Fritz

In 1993, while rummaging through a junk shop in Vienna, Austria, artist Oliver Croy made an extraordinary discovery—hundreds of beautiful, handcrafted architectural models each neatly wrapped in rubbish bags. Croy was so attracted by the skilled workmanship that he acquired the entire lot—nearly four hundred of them.

Croy found out that the models were created by man named Peter Fritz, who worked as a clerk at a Viennese insurance company. Nothing more was known. Who Peter Fritz actually was, or why he made them, and how it ended up in a junk shop.

Somalia’s Hand Painted Storefronts

Many businesses and shopkeepers in Somalia—which is one of the world’s poorest nations—cannot afford luxuries such as backlit signs and vinyl posters to advertise their products and services. They instead rely on local artists to decorate their storefronts. Low literacy rate requires that these hand painted signs be accompanied with visual depictions of the products they sell.
How To Draw Easy Animals

How To Draw Easy Animals

Have you noticed how some people can just pick up a pen or pencil or even a marker and draw a good drawing that has a lot of resemblance to the animal they are trying to represent. And in this instance, we are not talking of skilled and experienced artists but those who are only marginally skilled in art. The fact is that while drawing animals especially in an amateur manner, you have to be able to take the animal that you are trying to draw and break the shapes into different parts in order to draw the whole. We are not saying that by doing this, you will be able to draw realistic animal pencil drawings that will have others awestruck but you will definitely be able to draw a pretty good likeness of the animal in question. You will also not be able to duplicate lovely and cute elephant tattoo designs but you can draw a rough sample of what you want it to look like.
