Seals Are Actually Ocean Puppies (15+ Pics)

Seals Are Actually Ocean Puppies (15+ Pics)

Although dogs and cats live on land and both are easily domesticated, dogs actually have more in common with sea-dwelling mammals than they do with their furry foes. Canines share a lot of similar characteristics with seals for example, mainly because the two are considered Caniformes (which literally means "dog-like") and come from the same suborder of Carnivorans (unlike cats, which are Feliformes).

This genetic link perfectly explains why seals are often known as the puppies of the ocean. Don't believe us? Then take a look at the list below compiled by me. Only one mystery remains: if dogs have so much in common with seals, why do so many of them still hate baths?

Hilarious Dogs Eating Peanut Butter

Hilarious Dogs Eating Peanut Butter

Greg Murray is an award-winning photographer and an animal advocate based in Cleveland. He decided to combine his two passions in a simple purpose : make laugh and smile people. He began by photographed his rescued and adopted Mastiff, named Bailey. Obviously, pictures were cute and very funny, dog poses with tongue out, drool pooling. To obtain this hilarious result, he had the idea to give it some peanut butter. This is the way was born the project “For the Love of Peanut Butter”, a series of photos of dogs feasting with this peanut butter. The book grouping all these pictures will go out during summer 2016.

Sniffer Rats Detect Landmines and Tuberculosis in Mozambique

Mozambique is still littered with land mines from the country's civil war that ended in 1992. According to Handicap International, an estimated 20 people step on landmines every month in Mozambique. In addition to claiming the lives of about 60 percent of those who step on them, those land mines eat up land that could be used for farming, etc.

So Mozambique is turning to trained rats to de-mine the country. The rats have an acute sense of smell and are small enough not to detonate the mines. Every time they detect explosive, they make a clicking sound and receive a bit of banana as a reward. Rats trained under the scheme have already helped clear large swathes of land in mine-infested Mozambique.

A Guy Found A Scared Kitten Under A Truck And Just Couldn’t Say No To Her

When this good guy saw a scared kitten clinging to a truck near his office, he just couldn’t leave her like that. Turns out, “the mama kitty ran off… and ditched the kitten. No other kittens could be found,” – redditor JustAnotherGoodGuy explained.

Immediately after finding the kitty, the man sent the picture to his wife asking “can I bring it home?” His wife’s reaction? “Who could say no to that face?” – she said.

The first thing they did was take her to the vet. “That’s how we found she’s a she. Got shots, the whole new kitten package. She was only 4-5 weeks old when found.”

“[Axel] has made herself right at home with our 19 year old cat and 2 year old dog. She’s safe, sound, warm, and… loved,” – the couple explained.

The art of carving the wood is a real strength of the Polish artist Mat Szulik, who imagined the project PolyWood. His fingers design the shapes of wild animals that almost look realistic: wolves, elks, elephants, giraffes, bears and even snails. This Polish Photographer Takes The Most Beautiful Dog Photos Ever (13 Pics)

You may remember a post we did about Alicja Zmyslowska, a Polish photographer who takes beautiful and dreamlike portraits of dogs. Well, we loved her work so much that we thought we’d share some more of her pictures with you. After all, you can’t get too much of a good thing, and we’re sure you’ll agree that these pictures aren’t just good – they’re stunning.

“Since I was a child I loved animals,” Zmyslowska . “When I was 4, I got two beautiful cats but my biggest dream was still to have a dog. In 2006 this dream came true. My lovely golden retriever Kiara finally arrived to my home and changed my life! From the beginning I was making pictures of her with some compact camera or borrowed DSLR from my older brother. A year later I got my first DSLR camera. And everything started!”

See her amazing work for yourself in the series of pictures below.
