In the last decade, technology exploded. It was barely the beginning of the third millennium when we were still playing around on our flip-phones. Barely a few years later, smartphones were spreading among the general population like wildfire. We suddenly had 3D LED TV’s, tablets, highly intelligent phones, Oculus Rifts, and plenty of other pieces of future technology gadgets that we thought would take decades to enter our homes.
So, now that it’s clear that we can definitely overdo ourselves, those futuristic gadgets we’ve all been dreaming of might suddenly not be so out of reach anymore. Below, you’ll find a list with examples of technology that might become a reality in the future, but we really wish existed right now.
#1 Total Virtual Reality
We know that VIVE and the Oculus Rift are a thing, but that doesn’t mean that this whole virtual reality business can’t be even more developed. It’s definitely nice to be able to completely immerse yourself in a game or imagery, but it’s safe to say we could all do with being able to live a secondary life inside a virtual world.
#2 Perfect Prosthetics
VR is something we do for fun, but prosthetics are serious business. They’ve been a reality for a pretty long time, but we still have ways to go before we can create the prosthetic that can fully replace a lost limb. The good news is that we are currently developing bionics with senses of touch, so the future really is near.
#3 Robot Assistance
Yeah, we’re lazy. But it’s a pretty normal thing to dislike doing dishes after a long day of work, right? Life would be so much easier if we had (non-evil, wanting to take control over humanity) friendly household robots to cook us breakfast and vacuum the carpet.
#4 Facial Recognition
If there is any type of technology that needs to be constantly evolving, those are security systems. Hackers might finally have trouble gaining access to important information if we learned how to incorporate facial recognition security systems. Have fun trying to falsify DNA, folks.
#5 3D Food

It’s definitely nice to be able to print out a full-fledged 3D plane model, but there are surely much more practical uses for it. Imagine the huge technological leap if printers were able to also put out edible food. Admittedly, given the fact that it takes hours for the printer to do its work, it’s probably a good thing that we’re still holding back on that one.
#6 Less Wires
Generally speaking, the less wires there are, the bigger the comfort. We’re talking about how big of a nuisance tangled earphone wires are, how annoying it is when your charger isn’t long enough, and when you trip over your laptop charger and plug it out. Just find a ways to give us fewer wires, please.
#7 Headjack Learning
We definitely said we’re talking about technology that might become a reality in the future, but there are some things we just won’t stop wishing for. Aside from a lot of confusion, Matrix also gave us a device which would help us bypass years of education.
#8 Universal Translators
Even though there are already some functioning prototypes out there on the market, we have yet to see a fully functioning translator. Language barriers are becoming more and more annoying in a time when we all talk of unity and globalization.
#9 Teleporters
Alright, we get it. Teleporting yourself from one place to another sounds too good to be true, but it’s hard to believe anyone would mind a teleporter that would help us deliver a trail of freshly baked cookies to our friends.
#10 Jet Packs
Yes, they’re coming. Yes, they’re turning into reality. Soon, we will be literally able to fly. Even though jetpacks are still a work in progress, we can’t help but wonder what we’ll realistically use them for. Taking panoramic photos of cities without using drones?
