Superhero Bookshelves By Turkish Artist Burak Doğan

Despite what you’ve been led to believe, you don’t need a cape to be a superhero. Nor do you need superpowers (although they do come in useful). All you need is a superhero bookshelf, and Burak Doğan can help you with that.

The industrial designer from Turkey has created these awesomely alternative bookshelves that will turn your boring living room into nothing short of a superhero lair. The bookshelves come in a variety of designs and you’re bound to find one that represents your favourite crime-fighting tough guy. From Superman and Captain America to S.H.I.E.L.D and Wonder Woman, Burak’s super creations are sure to make a talking point for anybody who comes to visit your secret superhero hideout. But only if you give them the address that is!

Artist Installs Floating Piers on Italian Lake

A three-kilometer-long floating walkway made up of 220,000 high-density polyethylene cubes connect two small islands to the shore on Lake Iseo, on Italy’s Lombardy region, some 100 km east of Milan. The project which is being overseen by 80 year-old Bulgarian-born artist Christo Vladimirov Yavachev, has been going on since last November and is on its final leg. Although it appears bright white now, the 100,000 square meter walkway will be covered by a shimmering yellow fabric when it opens for visitors on June 18. The walkway will remain open for only 16 days, until July 3, during which half-a-million visitors are expected to walk on it. The experience will be like, as the artist describes, “walking on the back of a whale”.

Tattoo Artist Who Lost His Arm Gets World’s First Tattoo Machine Prosthesis

A lot of people have tattoos, and each tattoo is special in its own little way. But few tattoos are as special as the ones created by JC Sheitan Tenet. Why? Because the tattoo artist doesn’t do them by hand. He does them by prosthetic hand!

Take a look below to see what we’re talking about. Amazed? Confused? I think we’re both. Tenet, who is based in Lyon, France, lost his arm 22 years ago. He received the world’s coolest prosthetic courtesy of French artist JL Gonzal, who modified an existing arm prosthesis to accommodate the tattoo machine.

Love Is In The Small Things: New Illustrations By Korean Artist Puuung (20+ Pics)

You may remember a post we did last year featuring the beautiful illustrations of an artist known as Puuung. The theme of the pictures was love, and how it exists in the small things, and we loved her work so much that we thought we'd share some more of it with you. After all, you can't get enough of love right?

"Love is something that everybody can relate to,' writes the artist on her Facebook page. "And Love comes in ways that we can easily overlook in our daily lives. So, I try to find the meaning of love in our daily lives and make it into artworks." Puuung, from South Korea, has over 85k followers on Instagram and is currently featuring her amazing work in a number of LOTTE galleries throughout Seoul. Be sure to check out her exhibitions if you're in town. And don't forget to take your loved one.

We Made A 3D Screw Portrait That A Blind Artist Could ‘See’ With His Hands

This is the story of how we made a portrait of George Wurtzel, a blind artist. It was the first portrait ever that he could feel and recognize as himself.

The sculpture by Andrew Myers is made of 4,000 hand-painted screws. Warning: you might want to cry (but in a good way!).

Artist Gives Sick Kids Awesome Tattoos To Make Life In Hospital More Fun

Artist Gives Sick Kids Awesome Tattoos To Make Life In Hospital More Fun

New Zealand artist Benjamin Lloyd recently announced on Facebook that he would give all the kids at Auckland’s Starship Children’s Hospital temporary tattoos if he received 50 likes. But he didn’t get 50 likes. He got over 400,000 of them! And the number just keep on rising.

True to his word, Lloyd has agreed to honor his pledge. The artist has been airbrushing for ten years but has only recently started painting tattoos. He only did them for fun, and only for adults, but when he suggested doing them for the kids at the children’s hospital the internet went into overdrive. He’ll soon commence his admirable tattoo-a-thon, but in the meantime, check out these pictures to see the sort of awesome sleeves that these cool kids will soon be sporting.

“Nothing brings me more joy than boosting kids confidence with a custom tattoo,” wrote Lloyd on Facebook. Any chance you can do us next?
