My Salt Drawings Reveal Their True Colors When Inverted

My name is Dino Tomic and I recently have started creating artwork using regular kitchen SALT.

Testing out new techniques and expanding your artistic field – going from one medium to another and taking new knowledge with you for each last piece you did. That’s how you build character and versatile your artistic abilities, either mastering one subject or many, as long as you determination is there you will feel progress and finally succeed. The more you know the better you will be, and the better you are the more complex tasks you can do. Complexity of a task is only in the mind of the observer. It’s only hard if you have no background knowledge.

The salt mandalas/salt art are just one of many stepping stones I’m undertaking. I know I’m talking more in general about art than the the subject at hand – but I feel it’s more important to present the whole picture instead. Undertaking projects like these are like entering uncharted territory. Not only is it new for me, but it’s also new for the world. Creating art with salt was around for many years – but really improving on what’s possible with this medium is something I’m very interested in. Today in the world there are only a handful of people who create art using only salt and the projects they undertake is a mere fraction of the size that I do.

Pushing a medium to new heights, and backing it up with my knowledge of past projects speeds up the process. Overcoming past set boundaries and rising the bar higher is of utmost importance for me. Isolating one particular part that does not present the whole process of why I’m doing/creating the artwork today. Doing projects like these test my abilities as an artistic creator, they open my eyes and refresh my senses.

If you let your cat outside and think it stays near your house, think again. A recent research used GPS trackers to show the daily movement of pet cats and its results surprised their owners.

“When you speak to a lot of cat owners they say: “Oh my cat just sleeps on the end of my bed, it doesn’t go anywhere,” senior land service officer Peter Evans said. Turns out some of the cats have “gone three kilometres from home.”

“I thought Semi particularly would be just local — bottom of the garden or next door’s yard,” one of the pet owners said. He was shocked when he learned that Semi was going into bushland and “over the hill and far away.” The owner is guessing that the cat is “looking for food which is probably the primary thing because he’s usually around eight and a half kilos which [the vet says] is far, far too heavy.”

The survey was carried out by The Central Tablelands LLS at Lithgow, in central-west New South Wales.

Hidden Poems on Boston’s Sidewalk Reveal When it Rains

For the last few months, Boston’s local artists have been spray painting poetry onto concrete sidewalks using biodegradable, water-repellent paint. When sunny and dry, the letters remain invisible. But when it rains, the sidewalk darkens and words appear.

The project is a collaboration between Mass Poetry, a nonprofit organization that supports poetry across the state, and the city of Boston, and was started in April to commemorate the start of this year’s National Poetry Month. The poems selected for installation are connected to Boston as well as to the general themes of water and rain. Some of the poets whose works has been featured so far include Langston Hughes, Gary Duehr, Barbara Helfgott Hyett, and Elizabeth McKim.
